August 8th, 2014 – You might think that, once a criminal case has concluded, either by entry of a plea by the defendant or conviction, the case would be closed. All that is left to do is for the court to impose sentence, typically a monetary penalty and/or period of incarceration, and ensure that the terms are fulfilled.
